In 1955 First Southern Methodist Church of Charleston Heights held their first service at 2 Louise Drive, Charleston Heights (before it was incorporated with North Charleston) with the Rev. C. D. Huggins presiding. The church at the time was part of the Ridgeville Circuit, which included Cypress Memorial in Ridgeville and Mr. Carmel in Walterboro.
In 1959 First SMC of Charleston Heights was transferred to the newly created Charleston Heights and Mr. Carmel Circuit.
At the 1964 Annual Conference a new Charleston Circuit, consisting of First SMC of Charleston Heights and West Ashley was created. West Ashley has since changed its name to Charlestowne Methodist Church.
First SMC of Charleston Heights became an independent station in 1965.
Property was purchased on the corner of Remount Road and Garrett Street in North Charleston and construction of a new Sanctuary and Sunday School building started in 1982. The new church had a Sanctuary, Sunday School rooms (some with folding walls so we could use them as a Fellowship Hall when needed), kitchen, pastor's study, and bathrooms. When completed, the church was completely debt-free. Later, a Fellowship Hall and more bathrooms were added and the Sunday School walls were made permanent.
In 1984/1985 the name of the church was officially changed to First Southern Methodist Church of North Charlesto
