Mission
October 29th, 2008
The purpose of the Woman’s Missionary Society (WMS) is to promote and support missionary activity in various countries around the world. The WMS provides monetary support for purchasing new clothes when a missionary family comes home, to help our missionaries’ children with their college expenses, and support of various missionary projects.
The WMS keeps a room stocked with supplies where our missionaries can “shop” when they come for home assignment—everything from sheets and towels to cookware to dishes to trash cans to paper towels. The WMS helps to provide aid to the students at The Southern Methodist College in Orangeburg and helps with various financial needs of the college and helps to support Camp Summers and Manget and Camp Three Forks Trail.
The WMS at First Southern Methodist Church of North Charleston is known as the Roxanne Cox Circle and is proud to be a sponsor for Roxanne and her husband, Jimmy, who is a missionary to Sudan. The Circle meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The meeting consists of a lesson period and a short business meeting. The lesson is taken from the current year’s special book written to help women further develop Christian attitudes and practices in their daily living.
